Few years ago we were in Egypt and my wife went in one of the local Gift shops to buy some jewellery, when she went to the till to pay, the guy on the counter said that the Credit Card machine doesn't work due to a power cut and they have to charge your card by using one of these old manual machines which uses carbon slips, he took the card and brought back the slip and she signed it, I believe the amount was 40 pounds sterling.
When we arrived back in the UK we received a bill of 800 pounds sterling on the credit card which supposed to be charged on our departure day in another city located 5-6 hours drive each way from the city in which were residing, the only place where my wife used her card was in the Jewelery shop, we had a job to convince the bank that was a scam but the charge was cancelled after an investigation.
Whatever happens don’t let your credit card leave your sight.
